Enjoying a Modern day RenFest

Renaissance festivals imitate the early life of people in England during the reign of Queen Elizabeth the first; they believed that under her rule the renaissance period flourished in this time. But, sometimes these festivals portray a deeper definition of renaissance with the affiliation of earlier periods like wizards, barbarians, and Vikings including pirates in the 18th century.

Renaissance festivals attract thousands of visitors, merchants, and staff members, who wear medieval costumes and fantasy characters, like Vikings, elf, fairies and knights. There is also an abundance of medieval shows, rides, arts and crafts, with authentic food and wine. Renaissance themed merchandises and handicrafts are on display, and a scheduled play for stage performance like bards, jugglers, and dancers. They also do Shakespeare plays in simple theaters that are crowded with guest in medieval style. You can also find actors that blends with the guest and in full costume and character.

A renaissance festival also features fun and adventurous plays like axe-throwing, archery, jousting and sword fighting, which were very popular in the renaissance period. Although the jousting and sword fighting in the renaissance festival are scripted combat and determined by how the performers do while doing the show. The performers are not real fighters though but the weapons and props used for this plays are real. Some of the main attractions in a renaissance festival are human-powered swings, lived animal ride and displays are also among them.

These popular festivals are well organized in different parts of the country and with designated time and schedules of the year. Merchants and renfest lovers often keep on moving from one event to another. For example the most famous renaissance festival is located in Texas; it takes place in planter’s villa Texas every early October on November.
